That’s the heart of My Colorful World is a children’s picture book I wrote for every child growing up in a multicultural or multiracial family. For every little one who’s ever been asked, “What are you?” For every parent who’s ever wondered how to teach their child to love all parts of their identity.

Meet Amaya: A Girl with Two Cultures and One Big Heart
The star of My Colorful World is Amaya a curious, spirited little girl with a Black mom and an Indian dad. Her days are filled with rangoli and soul food, Diwali lights and Christmas cheer, Bollywood beats and bedtime prayers. Through Amaya’s eyes, kids experience the joy of living in a home where traditions are blended, not blurred, where every culture is honored, and every question is welcome.
She’s not confused. She’s colorful. And she’s proud.
🌍 Why This Book Matters
Children’s books help shape how kids see themselves and others. But for too long, stories about multicultural families, especially ones that reflect Black and South Asian heritage, have been missing.
My Colorful World was born from that gap. As a Black woman married to an Indian man and raising a multicultural family, I wanted my daughter to see herself on the page. Not just in skin tone, but in family traditions, food, language, and everyday life.
This book is a love letter to her and to every child growing up in a beautifully blended home.
