Marriage Resume Secrets Aka BioData Prior to dating and marrying my husband who is South Asian, I had never heard of the term biodata.  He had hesitantly mentioned to me that his parents wanted to have his biodata done before we were engaged.  Yet he was swift to let them know the biodata route was not for …

  • Does this answer this question for you?
p.s. Some more pictures for you all! This was 15 years ago, and my MIL brought my beautiful lehengas from India. She did a phenomenal job, in my opinion! And, no, getting to have this Indian wedding was no easy feat, but we did after an ocean of tears, miles of conversations, and endless forgiveness.

  • Had to reshare this gem and little-known history in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month!

Have you heard of the period of the Punjabi-Mexicans or Mexican-Hindu? Did you know that during this time, mixed marriage became a necessity because strict immigrant laws prohibited Punjabi’s from bringing their wives to the US. Hence male Punjabi’s would marry Mexican women, and their interracial unions resulted in a small Punjabi-Mexican community in Yuba City, California.

What’s more that it was the Punjabi-Mexicans in California who turned quesadillas into a symbol of identity?

⁣⁣p.s. The first picture is a wedding photo of⁣ Valentina Alvarez and Rullia Singh in 1917.

✡ This Rosh Hashanah, revisit our story on what makes India one of the safest places for Jewish people in the world.

Rahel Musleah was 6 when she immigrated with her parents to Philadelphia in 1964. Like most Indian immigrants, she experienced the usual culture shock: bad food, uninformed locals, a less-familiar tongue. But Musleah wasn’t just different than most Americans — she was different than most Indians, too. She wasn’t Hindu, Muslim, or Christian, but Jewish, and ostensibly white.

Few people know that India has long been home to a small but prominent indigenous Jewish community, part of which dates back to over 2,000 years. At its peak, the population was around 22,000; it has dwindled to under 14,000, making it the smallest religious minority in India. Musleah is a member of the Baghdadi Jews who arrived from the Middle East around the beginning of the 19th century, one of the world’s roughly 100,000 Indian Jews. Around 85,000 Indian Jews now live in Israel and a few thousand are scattered throughout the world.

“Even today, with so much emphasis on diversity and global Judaism, people are still surprised that there are Jews in India,” said Musleah. India — according to many of its Jewish citizens — is one of the safest countries for Jews in human history.”
